The raspberry, a proud member of the rose family, carries a story as rich as its colour. Its botanical name, Rubus idaeus, means “bramble bush of Ida” — a tribute to both Mount Ida, where it once grew wild, and the nymph Ida, who cared for baby Zeus.
As the tale goes, raspberries were once pure white. But when Ida pricked her finger while picking them for the young god, her blood turned the berries a deep red. A hue they’ve kept ever since.
